FIFA Puskas Award goes to Ronaldo goal vs. Porto

This is a new award by FIFA to recognize the goal of the season. This is the first year for it, and the winner is Christiano Ronaldo for his goal against Porto in the Champion League. Enjoy the top 10 nominated goals

I say that the selection was great, but I am bit disappointed that it didn't give a lot of recognition to team works. I was very impressed by these two team work counter attacks:
Ronaldo goal against Arsenal
London Donovan USA goal vs. Brazil in Confederation Cup
since we are talking about great goals, I want to share this recent great volley

Viva to Estudiantes fans (Copa Mondial 2009)

I was so impressed by the large number of spectators who travelled all the way from Europe and Argentina to watch their teams play in this tournament, especially the Estudiantes fans. I heared estimations of 5,000 to 12,000 fans who travelled all the way from Argentina on their own account for around 20 hours flights. It is not the most popular team in Argentina, and common sense says that they have less chance than Barca. Yet, they were there for the team.

They were very organized, loyal, extremely decent. No noise nor "booo"s. After the final, they stayed in stadium till their team got the silver medal cheering for the team. They accepted defeat, knowing their team did a great game. After all, it was a joy to watch.

Barca fans were decent and impressive too. This is what I call a professional fans. In Saudi or Egypt as well ,as many parts of the region, we had tough time accepting the fact of defeat, even for the highest officials, pointing to referees, fans, outside events.

Watch Barca winning FIFA WC from the stadium

I was in Abu Dhabi last week watching Barcelona winning FIFA WC for the first time. We saw the SF and Final games and recorded many interesting videos getting many important moments and stadium atmosphere. In the SF, our seats were next to the African musical band of Mazembe team. Their music was very much like the Brazilian Samba. So, it was like watching Barca playing on Samba music.

Strange refereeing stories

lol, while a team is celebrating their (disallowed) wonderful goal, another goal is being scored by opponent. Then the referee gave him a red card (link taken from soccerblog.com)

Is there is something worse? lol, yes, this referee, could not see a goal that went out of the net, and at the same moment, the defender who held the ball by has both hands.(watch at 1 min 15 sec)

Finally, can you give red card, for a fight on the same team????!!!!!!

controversial goal: fair play or bad play?

This goal was scored last year in Saudi league. Mohammad Noor is a very contraversial player, with great performance, few red cards, and big dispute why he does not play in national team or why he play??!!

He scored this goal, unintentional according to him. He wanted to return the ball as part of the fair play.

Ittihad was criticized as they didn't do like what Ajax did in a simalr incident.

Rivelino scoring great goals in Saudi

Rivelino played next to Pele in 1970 WC and scored 3 important goals, and in 1974 WC scored another 3 important goals. All six goals were strong shots outside the penalty box, and I don't think any other player did that in the history of WC.

Rivo (as Saudis later called him) came to play in Hilal for 3 seasons starting 1979. He had great memories. He almost depended only in his free kicks and long range shots. He was famous by his swerving kicks.

This was considered the goal of the season in the most famous local derby against Nasr.

Another great goal against same team.
Well, one more free kick against the same team.
Another free kick against Ittihad
He also had bad temper he got suspended for few months after a red card and a fight on that game.

No easy group in 2009 WC

So, the draw is over and the 8 groups are known, I got few comments to say:

BBC headline caught my attention: "England enjoy kind world cup draw". And I don't see this comment realistic. It is a very common comment for someone who didn't see the last games of those teams.

USA was the only team to beat Spain in the last 2 years and it was 2-0. They almost beat Brazil at the Confederation cup final when they were ahead 2-0. Slovenia impressively knocked down Russia in a tough game. And Algeria was nothing less than a team you want to avoid. They press on the ball for the full field and play on quick counter attacks.

What I think, that South Africa will suffer from the fans of this group, the English and the Algerian can cause a lot of trouble for the organizors.

South African group is not that deadly. I think France and Mexico are bit lucky here.

Argentina group is almost a replica of the 1994 group. I think Argentina is a bit lucky here. Definately Nigeria today is nothing like the 1994 team. Actually Nigeria and South Africa are the only two African teams that are not impressing me today. All the other African teams will be very tough to beat.

Germany group is fair. I see Germany and Ghana got best chances. I expect a lot for Ghana. Nothing less than Cameroon 1990, or Senegal 2002. They get the best formula between the old and young generation after the 2006 Mondial and the 2009 Youth World Cup.

Holland and Denmark should be the favourites for group E, but this group is very open. There won't be any single easy game.

Brazil group is not that easy. There are three tough teams. But Brazil always managed to do it. I think Portugal should worry about their ticket to the second round.

In general, I think the groups are kinda evenly distributed. I cannot see a very tough or very easy group.

Fastest goal ever on soccer?

This goal scored in a local Saudi competition, which is claimed to be the fastest ever in soccer after 2 seconds only,

link is in youtube, but got it from this interesting iranian blog

Amazing Japanese goals (player and coach)

Though they lost the Asian semi-final, but they scored a wonder bicycle kick goal against the Saudi club Ittihad.

This goal reminded me so much with the very famous Ronaldinho goal against Villa Real with the same way.

Nagoya goal scored 21 Oct, 09. Four days earlier, their Yugoslavian coach Dragan Stojkovic scored another amazing (inofficial) goal.
